Date:

Sangrur, July 8: Locals have pooled in money to help the family of Gurmail Kaur, whose husband and both sons are drug addicts and have sold all their household items.

The matter was highlighted by The Tribune The locals with the help of the Red Cross de-addiction centre, Sangrur, provided kitchen items to her. “With the help of some locals, we bought kitchen items like cylinder and utensils, and handed over to her on Saturday at Badrukhan. As her husband Mangu Singh and both sons Lakhwinder Singh (30) and Manjit Singh (28) became drug addicts, she left her house. But after convincing her, she agreed to stay at her house,” said Mohan Sharma, director of the centre.

“Lakhwinder is intelligent and has done MA, BEd, while my younger son Manjit is also hard working. But drugs have ruined their lives. Please help them shun drugs and lead a normal life,” Kaur said.

Sharma said Manjit was admitted to their centre a month ago and was fine now, while Lakhwinder, who was admitted last week, was responding well. “We have been trying to find some jobs for them. After their treatment, we will start treating their father,” he added.
