Satya Pal Malik sworn-in as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi, August 23: Satya Pal Malik was sworn-in as the Governor of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. He was administered the oath of office by chief justice of Jammu and Kashmir high court Gita Mittal.

Malik was the governor of Bihar when the Centre announced his named as the new governor of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday. He replaced NN Vohra who had been the governor since June 2008.

Malik, a former socialist leader from western Uttar Pradesh who was with the Congress in the 1980s, joined the BJP in 2004.

He is the first career politician to be named Jammu and Kashmir governor in over five decades. Karan Singh, son of the state’s last king Hari Singh, was the last politician to occupy the post between 1965 and 1967.
