Amritsar, April 2: To accommodate the ever increasing rush of devotees at the Golden Temple, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has proposed a multi-sthe usrey ‘serai’ (inn) with a parking lot at the adjoining Akali Market.
In the first phase, Rs 10 crore has been sanctioned in the 2017-18 budget. Spread over five acres, the inn with 1,000 rooms has been proposed in the market owned by the committee.
The matter was already under consideration, but did not take shape. The selected site is behind Akal Takht and has a heritage structure in the form of a gate at its entry.The SGPC has already prepared the blueprint including map and design of the proposed project which was approved in an executive meeting.
