In a landmark initiative aimed at encouraging the youth for selfless service of society, the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday bestowed Shaheed Bhagat Singh youth award to six youths.
The Chief Minister handed over this prize to six youth including Navjot Kaur (Barnala), Manoj Kumar (Mansa), Beant Kaur (Bathinda), Omkar Mohan Singh (Rupnagar), Gurjot Singh Kaler (Mohali) and Sukhdeep Kaur (Bathinda). Congratulating these youth, Bhagwant Mann expressed hope that these youth will further play a constructive role in the well being of the society. He also said that these youth awards have been named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh the great hero who had always inspired youth for selfless service of the nation.
The Chief Minister further said that his government has decided to resume Shaheed Bhagat Singh Yuva award in the state which have been bestowed to youth today. He said that these awards will be given every year to youth for their outstanding contribution in several fields. Bhagwant Mann bemoaned that this award was stopped around seven years back but will be resumed now.
The Chief Minister reiterated that martyrdom of Shaheed Bhagat Singh at a young age had motivated the youth to join national freedom struggle thereby leading to independence of the country. He said that Shaheed-e-Aazam will ever remain a source of inspiration for the millions of youth to render selfless service to the nation. Bhagwant Mann also called upon the youth to follow the footsteps of Shaheed Bhagat Singh to make India a progressive and prosperous country.
The Chief Minister also launched a new and unique scheme Khed Maidaan, Har Pind Di Pehchaan’ conceived by the district administration to construct a sports stadium in every village. He said that this will help in channelising the unbounded energy of youth in the positive direction. Bhagwant Mann reiterated the firm commitment of the state government to ensure comprehensive development of youth by promoting sports in the state.
