Shaheedi Jor Mela begins Thursday; all arrangements in place

Fatehgarh Sahib, December 25: The District Administration has completed all the arrangements for the smooth conduct of annual Shaheedi Jor Mela, the biggest historic event of the Sikhs to be held here from 26th to 28th December in the memory of younger Sahibjadas of Guru Gobind Singh Ji, who were bricked alive here by the Mughals for refusing to embrace Islam.

The supreme sacrifice of Sahibjadas is considered to be unique in the annals of the world history and more than 10 lakh devotees are expected to pay obeisance to the martyrs at Gurudwara Fatehgarh Sahib, said Amrit Kaur Gill Deputy Commissioner and Amneet Kondal SSP while addressing a joint press conference here today.

Deputy Commissioner said that the mela would be totally religious in nature and spirit all the wine shops, gambling stalls, dances pandals, circuses, swings and other sources of entertainment has been banned. She said that for the first time administration has established night shelters for the pilgrims free of cost and 30 e-rickshaws have been put in service.

She said 24 hours power supply, clean drinking water, public toilets and medical facilities would be available round the clock. She said mini buses would carry the senior citizens, ladies free of cost from different destinations to Gurudwara Sahib. She said that Sight and sound program ” Jindan Nikian” will be shown at Aam Khas Bagh.

Amneet Kondal SSP said that during the mela the police and civil administration will work in co-ordination with “Mission Sewa”. She said the mela has been divided into 5 sectors each sector will be headed by SP and 2 DSPs. She said that 11SPs, 26 DSPs and 2500 police personnel and officers along with NSS, NCC volunteers have been put in place. She said that 20 free parking, 11 Check barriers to divert heavy traffic, 6 traffic diversion points, 13 observation posts and 52 nakas have been set up. She said for the first time 200 HD CCTV cameras have been installed and an IPS officer has been put on duty to monitor the live coverage. She said that the volunteers of NSS, College and University students will be deputed to create awareness about the cleanliness. She called upon the pilgrims to maintain the religious sanctity of the Mela.

Kuljit Singh Nagra Advisor to CM launched e-Rickshaws and special Aap for mela. Senior Citizens, children, physically challenged will be taken to Gurudwara Sahib free of cost.

Jaspreet Singh Additional Deputy Commissioner said that carrying of weapons, kirpans, sharp edged weapons have been banned and all the wine shops, Ahatas would remain close from December 26th to 28th with in the 3KM radius of Gurudwara Sahib. No loudspeaker will be allowed in Mela.
