Chandigarh, June 26
Reacting to the new Special Investigation Team (SIT) for the Kotkapura firing case inviting the SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal for questioning, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Punjab Assembly, Harpal Singh Cheema said that Shiromani Akali Dal Badal had no faith in the Constitution of India; nor any other agency. In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Saturday, Harpal Singh Cheema said that the Akali Dal Badal wanted to divert the attention of the people from this issue by making a fuss to cover up the stain of desecration of Sri Guru Granth Sahib. He said that the SAD Badal leaders were guilty of the Guru and they would be punished.
Cheema alleged that Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh was working under the pressure of the Akali Dal Badal and therefore at the behest of the Badals; he was repeatedly changing the members of his own investigation team. “In fact, Captain Amarinder Singh’s government is a failed government that has failed to protect its own officials,” he added. He further alleged that the Akali Dal Badal had a long record of trying to weaken the case by intimidating the witnesses against them in every case. Cheema said that the same thing was happening now in the case of the Special Investigation Team investigating the Kotkapura firing.
Cheema said that the Akali Dal Badal wanted the Badal family to form a committee of inquiry in their own house and give clean chit to the Badal family by appointing Harsimrat Kaur Badal, Sukhbir Singh Badal and Bikram Majithia as members of this committee. “But the children of Punjab know that when the Akali Dal Badal government was in power in Punjab, Sri Guru Granth Sahib was insulted and two innocent Sikhs were shot dead by the police while demanding justice against the desecration,” he added.
The AAP leader further said that the Badal family was responsible for this tragic incident but the leaders of the Akali Dal Badal were trying to fool the people of Punjab by spreading false rumors. Cheema said that the then Chief Minister and Home Minister were fully responsible for the Kotkapura firing, but efforts were being made to derail the probe. He said that Captain Amarinder Singh’s relation with Parkash Singh Badal was intact and with the connivance of both of them; an attempt was being made to save the Badal family from legal trouble through the process of inquiry committees.
