Sikh leaders meet ministers seeking separate identity of the Sikh community

New Delhi, January 3: To pressurise the government to accept the long-standing demand of the Sikh community, a delegation of Sikh leaders, including president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee Manjit Singh (GK), on Tuesday met Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad seeking separate identity of the Sikh community in the Constitution by amending Article 25.

At present the Constitution mentions them a part of the Hindu community.
The delegation was led by Shiromani Akali Dal general secretary and MP Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa. Other members of the delegation were MP Prem Singh Chandumajra, Balvinder Singh Bhunder and former MP Trilochan Singh.
