SIT to probe sexual harassment charges against GNDU VC

Date:

Amritsar, April 12: The Punjab Police have formed a three-member special investigating team to probe the “sexual harassment” charges against Guru Nanak Dev University’s Vice-Chancellor Jaspal Singh by a university lecturer in the Music Department.

The SIT will be led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (investigations) Jagmohan Singh.
Terming the allegations false, Public Relations Director Parveen Puri said the woman professor made the allegations after she was relieved from her post following complaints from students.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Jagmohan Singh said Assistant Commissioner of Police (Licensing) Parwinder Kaur would probe the case under his supervision.
The SIT was formed recently after the complainant shot off a letter to Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh and Governor VP Singh Badnore demanding justice and necessary action in this connection.

The victim had alleged that the VC victimised her as she thwarted his “advances”.
Puri said an inquiry was being conducted against her by the GNDU after the students accused her of being arrogant and creating nuisance in the department. He said the VC had constituted a committee to examine the issues raised by the students.
