Chandigarh, January 3: Alleging government apathy towards addressing grievances of SC victims in the state, the National Scheduled Castes Alliance here today highlighted an unsolved six-month-old gang rape case of a 13-year-old girl of Mohali district.
Addressing a press conference, alliance chief Paramjit Kainth said, “Linked with Cabinet minister Charanjit Singh Channi, the rape accused are moving freely. The police did not even book them under Section 376-D of the IPC and Prevention of Atrocities Act, till we intervened.”
The Class-VII girl left school after the incident and stopped doing outdoor chores, he said.
Kainth said, “We will organise a candlelight march from Ambedkar Chowk to the office of the IG (Patiala) on January 6 in case the police did not apprehend the accused and show sincerity in the case investigation.”
Kainth said, “Going by other examples quoted by the media during recent days, the current state government is mischievously oppressing the victims of the SC community. No political party or any social organisation has spoken on the issue only because the victim is from a Scheduled Caste community.”
DSP Kanwaldeep Singh said, “There are three accused in the case who have gone absconding. The families of two of the accused have also gone missing. We have procured their arrest warrants and searches are being conducted at different places to nab them.”
