For social connect, cops turn to Twitter, Facebook

Date:

Chandigarh, February 13: The Twitter account of the Punjab Police — www.twitter.com/PunjabPolice — and the DGP will go live from today. The move is aimed at aggressively countering the growing threat of gangsters and criminals using social media for anti-social activities.

DGP Suresh Arora said the police would now engage social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube in bridging the gap between the police and the citizens. Gangsters and criminals were using the medium to spread terror in the state.

Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh said the social media accounts would provide an effective forum for information dissemination, feedback and complaint channelling.
