Chandigarh, June 3: One person was killed while two others, including an ice cream vendor, were injured after a speeding car hit them at the Kisan Bhawan roundabout on Saturday night. The deceased and his friend were having ice cream when the incident took place.
According to the police, the car, that was coming towards the Kisan Bhawan chowk from the Sector 22/23 roundabout, first hit the divider and then a cab parked on the roadside. The speeding car then hit the ice cream vendor and two persons having ice cream before ramming into the Kisan Bhawan roundabout.
The driver fled from the spot, leaving the vehicle behind.
Passersby informed the police about the incident after which a PCR vehicle rushed to the spot and took all injured to the hospital.
Gagan Gautam (30), a resident of Kurali, who owns a sweets shop, was declared brought dead at the PGI. His friend, Ayush Sharma (23), also a resident of Kurali, who is a driver, was seriously injured and admitted to the GMSH, Sector 16, along with the ice cream vendor, Om Parkash.
The police said the vehicle was registered at an address of Yamunanagar and teams had been sent to arrest the accused.
A case under Sections 279 (rash driving), 304 A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by an act endangering the life or personal safety of others) of the IPC has been registered against unknown person at the Sector 36 police station. The police said efforts were being made to identify the accused.
The victim’s autopsy was conducted on Sunday after which the body was handed over to his family.
