Ludhiana, June 23: The Punjab Sports Department has been organising summer camps throughout the state, under the ‘Tandarust Punjab’ mission.
Such camps are being conducted at various venues in the district wherein a large number of boys and girls are being provided with coaching in various sports disciplines.
Kartar Singh Sehmbay, Assistant Director, Sports, Punjab, said hockey players were attending camps at Malwa Khalsa Senior Secondary School, Ludhiana, where girls were learning basics of the game, besides dribbling skills. Arunjit Kaur, senior hockey coach of the department, imparts training to the campers.
Similarly, boys are attending the camp at the coaching centre in Kila Raipur, where Gurdeep Singh has been sharing his experiences with them. Players from nearby villages — Aasi Kalan, Lohgarh, Mehma Singhwala and Jartauli are being benefited. Darshan Singh, former DPE, Punjab Education Department, has been assisting in coaching there.
Kuljinder Singh, vigilance inspector, along with Ranjeet Singh Mangat, Hoshiar Singh and Paramjit Singh, interacts daily with the campers and encourages them, he said.
Likewise, aspiring athletes (girls) attend the camp at the sub-centre of Ludhiana district at GHG Khalsa College, Gurusar Sudhar, under the guidance of Gurmeet Singh Randhawa, junior athletics coach of the department. Principal Swaran Singh Deol and Tajinder Singh Sidhu, head of the Physical Education Department of the college, also visit the venue and motivate the players.
The ground outside the indoor multipurpose hall opposite Guru Nanak Stadium, Ludhiana, is the venue for volleyball coaching where Barjinder Singh has been teaching skills to players.
These camps will culminate on June 30.
