Chandigarh, September 15:
In order to ensure four percent reservation quota for the Persons with Disabilities (PwDs) in government jobs and promotions provided by the Punjab Government and to expedite trials of theirs complaints, the State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Mr. Sumer Singh Gurjar held a special court, in which cases pertaining to PwD employees were listened to at length.
The State Commissioner, while directing the officers of the concerned department to implement the welfare schemes and facilities provided by the state government to these special persons in true spirit and ensured their recruitment strictly adhering to the policy, has asked the concerned officers of the five departments to appear at the next hearing on September 20, 2021 so that the cases could be resolved at the earliest.
During the hearing, five cases of the promotion of the PwD employees of various departments were heard. After hearing all the cases, the Commissioner directed the concerned officials of the Health Department, Higher Education Department, Excise and Taxation Office Patiala, Secretary Zila Parishad Jalandhar and IRB of Punjab Police to furnish details regarding delay in the promotions on next hearing.
Mr. Gurjar said, the Punjab government was committed to provide maximum employment opportunities to the disabled persons. Apart from this, they are also being provided financial assistance of Rs.1500 per month, adding that the department of Social Security and Women and Child Development has adopted “The Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016” with effect from April 19, 2017 thus it is our utmost duty to provide the person with disabilities with their rights.
He further conveyed that District level Camps to sort out the problems being faced by Persons with Disabilities will also be organised shortly, besides sensitizing persons with disabilities about their rights and government welfare schemes.
