Bathinda, May 2: A group of students from the Central University of Punjab on Tuesday sought registration of FIR against the university officials “responsible for the death” of Sushant Sagar, a student who reportedly died of cardiac arrest on the university premises a few days ago.
A delegation of students handed over a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner Diprava Lakra, seeking action against the Vice-Chancellor, Dean Student Welfare (DSW), chief warden of the boys’ hostel, medical officer and the sports officer.
Speaking to mediapersons, students, led by Gagan Sharma, alleged that this was the third case in which a person lost his life due to medical negligence on part of the university authorities.
He said the university authorities have put the blame on the ambulance driver and suspended him, but they haven’t taken any action against the chief warden, medical officer, sports officer and the DSW.
The students alleged, “The university doesn’t have the medical facility as is projected on its website, but the authorities are now arranging medical equipment in a bid to cover up their shortcomings.”
They also apprehended that the university authorities might tamper with the CCTV footage of the night when Sagar died.
They also alleged that the students who raised their voice over the issue are now being threatened by some faculty members.
Dismissing the allegations, Vice Chancellor RK Kohli said the university had adequate medical facilities and none of the faculty members have threatened any student over the issue.
