Chandigarh, March 9
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Punjab Senior Leader and Leader of Opposition Harpal Singh Cheema termed the demand of Sukhbir Singh Badal for ban on poll surveys as a sign of frustration in Shiromani Akali Dal Badal. Cheema said that the media had predicted the formation of Aam Aadmi Party government in Punjab through opinion polls and exit polls, due to which Sukhbir Singh Badal could not control his disquiet even for a few hours and he started questioning the media.
In a statement issued from the party headquarters here on Wednesday, Harpal Singh Cheema said that Shiromani Akali Dal Badal president Sukhbir Singh Badal started questioning the poll surveys and urging the Election Commission to ban opinion and exit polls. Harpal Singh Cheema alleged that Sukhbir Singh Badal during his 10 years in power in Punjab had misused government funds by engaging in various polls’ surveys and tried to tear down the democracy. Stories of Sukhbir’s atrocities have been making headlines. That is why now Sukhbir Singh Badal is speaking against the media and the poll surveys conducted by the media. He said that Congress, Shiromani Akali Dal Badal, Bhartiya Janata Party, Capt. Amarinder Singh and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa were against the change of power. These traditional political parties and families want to limit the power to themselves and their families to keep it out of the reach of common people.
Cheema said, “Poll surveys reflect the views of the people and democracy allows us to express. Although the picture of the election results will be clear after the counting of votes tomorrow, but the leaders of the traditional parties, like Sukhbir Singh Badal, cannot control their apprehensiveness.”
Harpal Singh Cheema further said that the people of Punjab have voted for change; pro-people and pro-development Aam Aadmi Party. The people of Punjab want to get rid of the politics of corruption and nepotism of SAD, BJP, Congress and other traditional parties. That is why the people of Punjab have exercised their democratic right for a change of government and now traditional parties are unable to digest this idea of change of power indicated in these exit polls.
