Chandigarh, September 19
The formal announcement of a CLP leader by the party high command has been delayed further even after the AICC appointed observers had zeroed in on the name of Sukhjinder Randhawa as the new Punjab chief minister.
Reliable party sources said that PCC Chief Navjot Singh Sidhu, apparently has raised his objection to Randhawa’s likely appointment. Hectic parleys were still on till last reports came in.
Earlier, after hours of hectic meetings and feedback from MLAs, the AICC appointed observers were learnt to have zeroed in on the name of Sukhjinder Randhawa as the new CLP leader.
He is a traditional Congressman and has been instrumental in taking on Capt Amarinder Singh.
An Akali baiter and once a close associate of Capt Amarinder, Randhawa developed differences with the former chief minister over non-fulfillment of poll promises
Two deputy chief ministers–one Dalit and a Hindu face –will also be announced along with the chief minister’s name, said sources. This is to balance the caste combination in the state.
Earlier, Ambika Soni declined to become the chief minister in favour of a Sikh name.
