Chandigarh, January 28: Congress leader Sukhpal Khaira made sensational revelations about jails, Punjab elections scene and his ED case on Friday.
Khaira addressed the media at his residence after being released from the Patiala jail. Khaira spoke about the situation inside the jail and his opponents, including Rana Gurjit Singh.
He claimed having won half the battle against ED’s ‘maliciously false and politically motivated’ case against him and that the rest will be won in people’s court on February 20 when Punjab goes to vote.
Khaira tore through the defence of Enforcement Directorate by saying that the challan failed to prove any of the charges laid against him. Khaira was arrested in November last year in connection with a money laundering case linked to an alleged drug racket being probed against him.
Saying that the challan bore no reference to the ED’s earlier charges of him having amassed illegal foreign funds to the tune of 1.19 lakh USD, he said that the 80-page challan only spoke about around Rs. 3.82 crore difference between his income and expenditure between the years 2014 and 2020.
He alleged that while indicating this difference of 3.82 crore, the ED had not included the two agricultural loan limit accounts of Union Bank of India and the regional Capital Bank Kapurthala to the tune of Rs. 2 crore.
Referring to the challan as a bundle of lies, the Congress leader questioned how the ED had relied upon the statement of one NDPS convict Harbans Singh and co-accused of Gurdev Singh.
Khaira claimed that the challan exposed the deep-rooted conspiracy between BJP and AAP, as his arrest was based on the statement of Pankaj Gupta, AAP Secretary, who had accused him of collecting 1.19 lakh USD.
Khaira said he will continue his crusade against all kinds of injustice and corruption, irrespective of such cheap arm twisting methods adopted by the BJP through its puppet agency of ED or the politics of lies being pursued by AAP leadership in their quest for power.
Khaira was elected to the state Assembly in 2017 from Bholath on Aam Aadmi Party ticket. After the AAP split in Punjab, he formed another party and subsequently returned to the Congress under Captain Amarinder Singh.
