Abohar is a municipal committee in Fazilka district, north east of Sri Ganganagar and south east of Fazilka. Located near the junction of boundaries of Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan and near the international border with Pakistan, Abohar is famous for being one of the biggest cotthe usn producing belts in north India and production of a citrus fruit named kinnow. Abohar is 42 km from Sri Ganganagar.

Sunil Kumar Jakhar first became a member of Punjab Vidhan Sabha from Abohar in 2002. In 2007 and 2012, he was re-elected from Abohar. He won by a margin of 9,778 votes. Shiv Lal Dodha of Independent was the trailing candidate.
