The SUV (PB-46-S-7770) belonged to the brother of a notorious drug smuggler against whom many cases have been registered. Coming from the Mehmudpur village side, the vehicle reportedly dragged the victims for over 200 m before coming to a halt.

The Valtoha police have registered a case under Section 302 of the IPC against SUV driver Karanbir Singh, who managed to escape.

SSP Darshan Singh Mann said the vehicle driver might have dozed off while driving. Asked about any drug smuggling attempt, he said it was yet to be ascertained. Further investigations were on, he added.
