New Delhi, June 9: A delegation of the SAD led by party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal on Friday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to thank him for exempting langar from GST. The delegation requested the PM to take up with his counterpart in Pakistan the issue of a corridor from Dera Baba Nanak to Kartarpur Sahib, the birth place of Guru Nanak Dev.
The PM said the SAD was the oldest and the most dependable ally of the BJP in the country. The delegation also thanked Modi for releasing Rs 800 crore for cane growers of Punjab which was a huge relief to the beleaguered peasantry. Other issues raised by them included implementation of the Swaminathan report and release of Sikh detainees. They said a national committee should be formed to ensure that the 550th Gurpurb of Guru Nanak Dev was celebrated as a major national and global event.
Meanwhile, a delegation led by Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Harsimrat Kaur Badal on Friday also called on the PM. The delegation also consisted members from the SGPC. They thanked the PM for the Centre’s scheme “Seva Bhoj Yojana”, under which CGST and IGST paid on items for langar would be reimbursed. The delegation also thanked the PM for a series of measures taken by the government to ease burden on sugarcane farmers.
