Taliban thanks India for medical aid

Date:

New Delhi, January 7

The Taliban has thanked India for its medical assistance to Afghanistan after a third batch of two tons of essential life-saving medicines were handed over to the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kabul on Friday.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid noted that besides six tons of medicines that arrived in Kabul in the morning as part of India’s assistance to Afghanistan, New Delhi had also sent five lakh doses of corona vaccine and “many other items’’ to Afghanistan.

“The Islamic Emirate is grateful to India for its humanitarian assistance and cooperation,’’ said Mujahid.

The MEA here said India stands committed to continue its special relationship with the people of Afghanistan and provide them humanitarian assistance. In coming weeks, India intends supplying more batches of humanitarian assistance consisting of medicines and foodgrains to Afghanistan.

A much larger consignment of Indian humanitarian aid is stuck at the Attari border as Pakistan has been dithering for over two months on providing transit for 50,000 tons of wheat for Afghanistan. Although Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan announced over a month back that Islamabad will allow the transit of 50,000 tons of wheat offered by India to Afghanistan, both sides are still negotiating the details.
