Target for delivery of rice revised

Date:

Chandigarh 29th April:

Minister for Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Lal Chand Kataruchak today thanked Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister for Food and Public Distribution for accepting his request to revise the target of delivery of rice to the central pool from 125.48 Lakh Tons to 133 Lakh Tons.

Sharing these details, a spokesperson of the Punjab Government said that the State had already delivered more than 100 LMT of rice into the Central pool so far against the target given to it. The State was also on target to deliver 50 Lakh MT of fortified rice, the largest contribution by any State by to the central pool which would be utilised by the Government of India for providing nutritious meals to children under the Mid-day Meal Scheme and Anganwadi programs.

It is worthwhile to mention that during the procurement of paddy in October November 2021, Government of India had fixed a target of 125.48 Lakh MT of rice which translated into purchase of 169 lakh MT of paddy. However, due to a bumper production of paddy the state had purchased 187 Lakh Tons of paddy which would have translated into 133 Lakh Tons of rice after its milling.
