Abohar, March 28: A private schoolteacher was on Tuesday caught appearing in the PSEB Class X science paper on behalf of a student.
Some students and their parents, who claimed to have earlier tried to bring the “scam” to the notice of the authorities also, informed the city police about the unfair practice at the centre allocated to Singh Sabha Senior Secondary School for Girls (Kanya Pathshala) located in Street-15.
As parents and their wards protested, a police team arrived.Gobindgarh village resident Banwari Lal, a teacher in a private school who was allegedly spotted appearing on behalf of a student, Charanjit, failed to produce a copy of Aadhaar card, which is mandatory. The student was to reappear for science exam.
Media persons also reached the examination centre. Banwari Lal reportedly confessed that he was paid Rs 3,500 to impersonate as Charanjit to appear in the exam. For him, this was nothing new. He had reportedly appeared on behalf of some other students also — most of them reappear or compartment cases at the same centre, but no one checked.
His statement was recorded in the presence of the police on different devices.
Some educationists, too, arrived and shared their concern with the police and other authorities over the manner in which the exam centre is being run. The police have taken Banwari Lal into custody.
The centre staff later prepared a case of unfair means.A senior school management official refuted any involvement of the school staff arguing that they were not at all responsible. The superintendent and invigilators had all the freedom to conduct exams in the centre, he claimed. “Some persons are trying to malign the image of our school,” he alleged.
