The victim, Nisha (38), was a resident of Housing Board Colony in Kalka. The incident took place at the railway crossing near the Pinjore-Nalagarh road. She was a teacher at a school in Amravati Colony.

Though no suicide note was recovered, the police said Nisha jumped on her own before the train.

She had been married for 15 years. Her husband, Rohit, told the police that Nisha hailed from Patiala and was a schoolteacher in Amravati.

She is survived by her husband and their 13-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old son. Rohit told the police that around 11 am, she left the house on her scooty saying that she had some work. He said he got to know about the death after getting a call from Nisha’s phone.

The police said a passerby called up Rohit from Nisha’s mobile phone. “It is a case of suicide. The body had been handed over to the family members after a postmortem,” said Jaipal, SHO of the Government Railway Police, Kalka.
