Teachers’ Front seeks probe into 600 transfers

Date:

Sangrur, August 19: The Education Department had released a list of transfers of around 600 teachers two months ago, without seeking applications.
Alleging corruption, Democratic Teachers Front (DTF), Punjab, members today held a protest and burnt an effigy of the Education Department authorities, demanded cancellation of transfers and a high-level probe into it.
All teachers under the banner of the DTF converged in a park and discussed their long pending demands. Their main demands include cancellation of all 600 transfers, which were done without getting any application, regularisation of services of all contractual teachers, merger of computer teachers in the Education Department, increase in salaries by at least Rs 1,000 for the uniform of students, promotion of deserving teachers and revival of old pension scheme.
“It has happened for the first time that transfer orders of 600 teachers were issued in June without taking any application. It shows that it was done for money. We demand cancellation of all transfers and a high-level inquiry to expose the officers behind the scam,” said Balvir Longowal, district president of the Sangrur DTF.
