Tech plays significant role in improving education quality: CS

Punjab Chief Secretary, Ms Vini Mahajan, has said that the technology was playing a significant role in improving the quality of education in the country and also the way it was making education more accessible to the masses.

She was speaking as the chief guest after inaugurating the first premier virtual event of National Web Series on NEP 2020: North India’s Plenary Session to discuss the various policy measures undertaken by the government under the National Education Policy 2020.

Ms Mahajan was awarded the lifetime achievement award at the event, which was powered by the AWS (Amazon Web Services) in association with IEEE-Prakash Bharati (consortium of IEEE Photonics Society Chapters of India) on Friday.

She detailed the steps being taken by the Punjab Government in providing skills to the youth, making them industry-ready and hence curbing the problem of brain drain in the country.

The Chief Secretary also congratulated the organisers for bringing several stakeholders on a common platform which may help achieve the new prosperous tomorrow.

Dr Naresh Chand FIEEE – the Associate Vice-President of Chapter Relations, IEEE Photonics Society, USA, was the guest of honour.

He expressed hope that such collaborative initiatives and events would be helpful in creating multi-faceted leaders to make the country, “Atam Nirbhar Bharat”.

The premier event was technically sponsored by the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Region 10, which happens to be the world’s largest technical professional organisation for the advancement of technology and IEEE Region 10 Educational Activities Committee and organised by iGEN Edu Solutions India.

The event was coordinated by Prof Inderpreet Kaur, Secretary, Prakash Bharati, India, EXECOM member PES-IAS, Delhi Chapter.

The draft of new National Education Policy that has been approved by the Union Cabinet recently to bring quality in higher education and to produce global competency in the Indian learners formed the basis of the event.

Senior bureaucrats, chancellors, vice-chancellors, directors, academicians, along with techno- industries and regulators of the region brainstormed to discuss the measures to be taken to bring along the technology in education.

The leading pillars of North India’s universities, including the intellectual and women academic leaders joined the discussion. The prominent panellists and distinguished speakers for the day were Dr Madhu Chitkara (Pro Chancellor, Chitkara University Punjab), Pooja Agarwal (Pro Chancellor, SRMU Lucknow), Prof Preeti Bajaj (Vice-Chancellor Galgotias University, Greater Noida), Niraj Chandala (Joint Director, Department of IT, Himachal Pradesh), Kunwar Shekhar Vijendra (Chancellor, Shobhit University, Meerut), Prof Rajendra Kumar Anayath (Vice-Chancellor, DSRUST Murthal), Sunil PP (Amazon Internet Services), Prof Shailendra Jain (Director SLIET Longowal), Prof RA Gupta (Vice-Chancellor, Rajasthan Technical University, Kota), and Prof Manoj Aroar(Vice-Chancellor BML Munjal University).

The programme chair for the event was Dr Manpreet Singh Manna, former Director AICTE, MOE, India. He had nurtured and nourished the idea of Swayam India, one of the largest MOOC’s platforms in the world.

The co-chair for the event was Dilpreet Singh, Employability Consultant, AWS India Internet Services Pvt Ltd.

The programme proposed to benefit the faculty members of various higher education institutions. Around 1,000 participants have registered for this programme across the country and world.
