Chandigarh, June 6: The Punjab government has appointed Baldev Singh Sran as the chairman cum managing director (CMD) of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL).
The retired PSPCL chief engineer has a 35-year experience of working in different positions in the power corporation. He was the president of PSEB engineers association for five years.
A Venu Prasad, an IAS officer, had assumed the CMD’s charge at the PSPCL after former CMD KD Chaudhry was asked to put in his papers in March 2017.
Earlier, a screening-cum-selection committee, headed by chief secretary Karan Avtar Singh, had shortlisted three candidates for the post. As per sources, the other two shortlisted candidates were NK Sharma, currently working as director (distribution), PSPCL and Harbans Singh, regional executive director of National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).
The committee then sent the panel of three candidates to power minister Gurpreet Kangar, who finalised a name and forward it to chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh for the final order.
It was for the first time that the Punjab government has conducted interviews for the post of the CMD, PSPCL.
This is a departure from the previous practice of selecting the officer through a screening of service record, with the chief minister giving the final nod.
