Temporary mandis proving beneficial for farmers says district mandi officer

In view of the outbreak of COVID pandemic , the Punjab Government had made foolproof arrangements for the procurement process of wheat which started from April 10. As many as 263 temporary procurement centers have been set up in the district to procure the crops of the farmers without any hassle and following the precautions of COVID -19. This information was given by District Mandi Officer Mr. Jaspal Singh Ghuman.

Mr. Jaspal Singh said that in order to control gathering in the mandis and also to procure wheat in a conducive environment for the farmers, temporary procurement centers were set up like last year. He said that there was smooth procurement arrangements in mandis and more than 80 per cent of the procurement work has been completed. He said that along with the timely procurement of wheat in the temporary procurement centers, lifting was also being ensured within set deadline.

He said that for the convenience of the farmers, as per the instructions of the state government, vaccination camps were also being set up in all the mandis and the officials of the Mandi Board were also sensitizing the farmers about the precautions to be taken against COVID. He again appealed to the farmers to visit the Farmers’ Helpdesk set up in the offices of the Market Committees to get the information about the online payment for which the staff has already been deployed.
