Chandigarh April 16 : Tanmanjeet Singh Dhesi MP from Slough, UK met with the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann at his official residence in Chandigarh and discussed an array of issues pertaining to Non-Resident Indians. During the hour-long meeting Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha, Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar MLA Amritsar South and Dhesi’s father Jaspal Singh Dhesi were also present.
Dhesi remarked, “I’m extremely grateful to the Punjab Chief Minister for the warmth with which he received me. “We were able to exchange views at length about matters affecting the Punjabi diaspora, including anxieties around land dispute cases, blacklisted individuals and long-standing political prisoners, and better laws and policies to attract NRIs direct investment”, he added.
UK MP further said “We have also discussed the importance of increasing cargo, trade and tourism through greater connectivity, especially daily direct flights from London, Birmingham and other cities abroad, to both Amritsar and Chandigarh.”
Dhesi explained that the diaspora obviously wants to see the land of their heritage flourish and contribute towards that. “Given the CM’s extensive knowledge gained from visits abroad, he assured me that he would do his best to address these issues, which would undoubtedly lead to increased cooperation and progress,” he said.
