Uphaar fire tragedy: Ansal brothers, three others sentenced 7 years in jail for evidence tampering

Delhi court sentences the Ansal brothers and three other people to seven years of jail for tampering with evidence in the 1997 Uphaar fire tragedy.

The three others, a former court staff Dinesh Chand Sharma and individuals PP Batra and Anoop Singh, sentenced in the case were Dinesh Chand Sharma, PP Batra and Anoop Singh.

Both Sushil and Gopal Ansal have been fined Rs 2,25 crore each in the case.

A fire that broke out in Delhi’s Uphaar movie theatre halfway through the screening of the movie ‘Border’ on June 13, 1997, killed 59 people.
