Vajpayee’s ashes immersed in Beas

Date:

Amritsar/Gurdaspur, Aug 23: Ashes of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee reached the Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport in Amritsar on Wednesday afternoon and immersed into the Beas river in the evening.

Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri, BJP state president Shwait Malik and MP Vijay Sampla came along with the remains of Vajpayee from New Delhi.

A large number of BJP activists reached the Asthi Visarjan Ghat of Dera Radha Soami Satsang, Beas, in a cavalcade. A special mini-truck was decorated to lead the cavalcade. The cavalcade stopped in towns where activists paid tributes to the former PM.

Vajpayee’s ashes were also immersed in the Ravi river near the Madhopur headworks at the same spot where Jawaharlal Nehru’s ashes were immersed. Earlier, the ashes were brought in a metal container from the Amritsar airport.
