Chandigarh, July 14: The Punjab government has come to the rescue of MP from Jalandhar Chaudhary Santokh Singh and party MLAs from Jalandhar, who have been crying foul over Punjab Vigilance Bureau action against illegal buildings.
Acting upon the request of the party leaders, who met Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh in Chandigarh on Thursday, instructions have reportedly been issued to the Vigilance to wait till the one-time policy on illegal buildings is announced.
After last month’s action by Local Bodies Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu against illegal buildings in Jalandhar, Vigilance teams started conducting raids on illegal buildings and also raided the office of the Municipal Corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) to scrutinise records pertaining to the 93 commercial buildings identified by the Local Bodies Department.
Sources said in their meeting with the Chief Minister, MP and MLAs, Sushil Rinku, Pargat Singh and Rajinder Beri reportedly stated that the Vigilance raids were having a political fallout. The departments concerned have been asked to keep the Chief Minister Office (CMO) in the loop.
