Kotkapura, October 15: Congress leaders on Sunday attended the “barsi” of Sikh protesters killed in police firing at Behbal Kalan village three years ago. Separate programmes were held at Behbal Khurd and Sarawan villages.
Besides announcing funds for the development of these villages, the Congress leaders assured the victim families that action would soon be initiated against those responsible for the incident.
Cabinet minister Tript Rajinder Singh Bajwa said due to some legal issues, the matter was getting delayed, but those responsible for killing the protesters would face action soon.
“The government wants to ensure punishment to the culprits without leaving any room for loopholes. The guilty police officers are trying to save their skin by resorting to legal recourse. We are plugging all loopholes to ensure their conviction,” said Bajwa, while speaking at Sarawan village.
Bajwa was accompanied by Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Faridkot MLA Kushaldeep Singh Dhillon and local party leaders. He alleged that the Akalis had revived the painful memory of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by resorting to firing upon peaceful protesters.
