PSPCL official’s video accepting bribe goes viral, suspended

Date:

Muktsar, June 26: Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has suspended its employee for demanding and accepting bribe.

Earlier, a sting operation video of the PSPCL official in the district allegedly demanding and accepting the bribe of Rs 2,000 for changing the name of a tubewell power consumer in the records had gone viral on social media.

The farmer, who had shot the video, even lodged a complaint to the state Vigilance Bureau against the official, Tarlok Chand, who is posted as a Revenue Accountant at the PSPCL’s Doda office.

The PSPCL authorities on Monday suspended Tarlok Chand. “We have suspended our employee Tarlok Chand after a video went viral, in which he is seen allegedly demanding bribe. The investigation is, however, pending,” said BK Jindal, Superintending Engineer (SE), PSPCL, Muktsar.

Jagdeep Singh, a farmer of Doda village, said, “I had bought four acres land jointly with my brother and applied for the transfer of a tubewell power connection in my name. The file was even marked by the SDO. But when we went to meet Revenue Accountant Tarlok Chand at PSPCL’s Doda office on Wednesday, he demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 for the work. The deal was finalised at Rs 2,000, which we paid to him. Besides, we paid Rs 1,600 government fee. I along with a friend captured the entire video of the incident in a phone and complained to Vigilance officials as well. The official claimed that the share of the bribe goes to his seniors as well.”

He added, “We have given our statement and handed over a CD of the video clip and other related documents to the Vigilance sleuths. They had assured us of action.”

Manjit Singh, DSP, Vigilance, Muktsar, said, “I have come to the office today after leave and don’t know about the complaint or any video.”
