Vidhan Sabha approves 2 additional sittings for current sessions

Date:

Chandigarh, March 21: The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of the Vidhan Sabha on Tuesday decided that the current session would have two additional sittings, besides the already circulated schedule.

Conducted in the chamber of Speaker Rana KP Singh, the committee decided to have a double session on March 27.

The original schedule had no afternoon session.A special sitting will now be held on March 21 on Comptroller and Auditor General of India (2016-2017), demands for grants in supplementary estimates (2017-2018) and Appropriation Bill for Supplementary Estimates for 2017-2018. This was originally scheduled to be held on the day of the presentation of the Budget on March 24.

A press note issued by Leader of Opposition Sukhpal Singh Khaira said, “I recorded my dissent and walked out in protest out of the meeting of the BAC against no extension in session of the Assembly. I demanded more sessions.

There are a large number of issues concerning the general public that need urgent attention. The AAP MLAs will get only 31 minutes each in both the sittings to debate on the Governor’s address tomorrow, which is insufficient and a joke of the vital platform of the Vidhan Sabha. I term this short session a mockery of democracy.”
