Vigilance nabs MC EO, clerk red handed for taking bribe

Chandigarh, July 9: Punjab Vigilance Bureau today nabbed an Executive Officer (EO) and a Clerk of Municipal Committee, Sultanpur Lodhi, Kapurthala district red handed for accepting bribe of Rs. 15,000.

Disclosing this here today a spokesperson of Vigilance Bureau Punjab said Baljeet Singh, EO and Ajit Singh Clerk posted at Municipal Committee, Sultanpur Lodhi were arrested on the complaint of Bikramjit Singh of Sultanpur Lodhi.

Giving details he added that the complainant has approached the VB and alleged that the Baljeet Singh, EO and Ajit Singh Clerk were demanding bribe of Rs 30,000 in lieu of clearing the dues of his mother after her retirement who was working as safai sewika at MC, Sultanpur Lodhi. The complainant further informed that he had already paid Rs. 15000 as a first installment to the accused EO and clerk in this regard.

After verifying his complaint a VB team from Jalandhar laid a trap and the accused were caught red handed with bribed amount of Rs. 15,000 of 2nd installment and tainted money was recovered from them in the presence of two official witnesses.

He informed that a case under Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against both the accused at VB police Jalandhar and further investigation was under progress.
