Vigorous campaign being waged to stop bogus billing of paddy/rice: Lal Chand Kataruchak

Chandigarh, November 2:

Intensifying the campaign to sell paddy/rice purchased from other States at concessional rates, in Punjab during ongoing Kharif season 2022-23 and nipping the menace of bogus billing of paddy/rice in bud, two trucks were impounded today and an FIR registered.

As part of this, Secretary Market Committee, Sangat (Bathinda) Sukhjiwan Singh impounded the 2 trucks of rice from the inter state barrier sent by M/s S.K. Brothers Trading Company, Akbarpur (U.P.), present address Saurav Industries, Shop No. 102, New Anaj Mandi, Hansi, Hisar, to B.C.L. Industries, Sangat Kalan, District Bathinda. These trucks were handed over to the police and an FIR No. 0166 registered on November 1, 2022 u/s 420, 120B at Police Station Sangat, Bathinda.

Disclosing this, the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Mr. Lal Chand Kataruchak said that the culprits won’t be spared in this matter and their arrest would be ensured besides forfeiting the rice recovered from them. The ADGP Naresh Arora has been assigned the task of leading this campaign and coordinating with the department.

The Principal Secretary, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Mr. Rahul Bhandari divulging further, said that the department is fully geared up to tackle the menace of illegal activities such as bogus billing/recycling of the rice.

The Department has activated Mobile Wings of Excise and Taxation Department at District level, for the purpose of keeping strict watch over the paddy arriving in the mandis with directions to the Commissioner Taxation to probe the GST returns of the millers/private traders procuring the paddy privately.
