Panchkula, October 14: Dera Sacha Sauda chairperson Vipassana Insan today appeared before a special investigating team (SIT) of the Haryana Police in Panchkula for questioning in connection with the Panchkula violence, in which 35 persons were killed and more than 200 injured on August 25.
Vipassana, who finally appeared after three notices were issued to her, handed over Honeypreet’s I-phone to the SIT. Honeypreet had given her mobile phone to Vipassana before leaving the dera on August 27.
A senior SIT official said Vipassana and Honeypreet were questioned face to face. Honeypreet told the SIT that her data from iCloud of the I-phone had been tampered with and some data was also missing. As the mobile phone is password protected, the police would send it to a cyber lab for retrieving the data, the official added.
Vipassana reached Chandimandir police station around 11 am today and the SIT members questioned her till 8.15 pm. The police have asked her to appear again before the SIT on Monday at 10 am.An official said initially Vipassana denied that she was part of the meeting held at the dera headquarters in Sirsa on August 17, in which the alleged conspiracy for the Panchkula violence was hatched. But later she said she was aware of the meeting but did not attend it, he added.
The police are also trying to get the details of the persons who attended the meeting. As Vipassana is the chairperson of the dera, therefore, it was not possible that she was not aware about meetings in the dera, the official said.Panchkula Police Commissioner AS Chawla said that Vipassana joined the investigation today and they have not arrested her till now. “The police have some questions and the SIT members are asking her about these,” he added.
