War on drugs: STF, narcotics bureau merged

Chandigarh, September 14: The state government has decided that the Special Task Force (STF) will work as “an independent and autonomous vertical” of the Police Department on the lines of the state Intelligence Wing.

An official spokesperson said the state Home Department, on the CM’s directions, had issued a notification for making the STF an independent force and merging the Punjab State Narcotics Control Bureau with it.

Mohammad Mustafa has already been posted as the DGP, STF, in place of ADGP Harpreet Sidhu, who has been posted as Special Principal Secretary to the CM. On Thursday, Sidhu held a meeting with Suresh Kumar, Chief Principal Secretary to the CM.
