Police said the incident took place when there was no one inside the premises of the gurdwara.

“The accused allegedly went upstairs to a room where copies of the religious scripture were kept. The accused allegedly tore two pages 674 and 675 and kept it in her bag before coming downstairs. She sat inside gurdwara and started praying,” police said.

Meanwhile, the gurdwara granthi went upstairs for some work and found pages of the holy book missing.

He raised an alarm following which the villagers gathered at the spot, who checked Devi’s bag and found two torn pages inside. She was handed over to police.

Samana sadar police station station house officer (SHO) Narain Singh said, “A probe is on to find out the motive behind the act.”

The case has been registered against her under Section 295A (hurting religious sentiments) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
