Wrong blood transfusion: Health Department suspends Blood Bank employees for gross negligence

Chandigarh, October 9 : Acting on the report of the inquiry committee with regard to an incident involving wrong blood transfusion at a blood bank in Bathinda, Director, Health and Family Welfare department has issued orders suspending an employees for gross negligence.

As per the orders issued today, Baldev Singh Romana who is a medical lab technician Grade-1 posted at blood bank, Dr Krishna Goyal, BTO under NHM Pb.

Richa Goyal, MLT under PHSC working at Civil Hospital, Bathinda, have been suspended from duty with immediate effect. Meanwhile, the Civil Surgeon Bathinda has written to the SSP of Bathinda seeking FIR against the employee and also asked to take other necessary legal action.

It may be recalled that the Health and Family Welfare Minister Mr. Balbir Singh Sidhu had taken stern notice of the incident and ordered immediate formation of a probe committee. On his instructions, a three-member inquiry committee was constituted by the health department, which in its report found the employee guilty of gross negligence. It may be recalled that a 7 year old thalassaemia patient was given blood of an HIV-positive patient at the Bhai Mani Singh Civil Hospital in Bathinda few days ago. The blood bank at the hospital had issued the units after taking it from a donor and did not carry out the mandatory checks.
