Anandpur Sahib, May 22: Former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, who quit the BJP last month, and outspoken BJP parliamentarian Shatrughan Sinha said the Congress leadership must be appreciated for the grit the party showed in handling the post-election scenario in Karnataka.
They were here to pay obeisance at Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib. They were received by Aam Aadmi Party leaders Amarjit Singh Sandoa, Jai Krishan Rodi, both MLAs; Ropar district president master Gurdial Singh and Himmat Singh Shergill.
Talking to mediapersons, Yashwant said the Rashtra Manch, a political action group launched in January, was floated to start a movement which could “uproot the BJP government that was being controlled like a puppet by the Modi-Shah duo at the Centre”.
He said the Karnataka episode had proved that parties with similar ideologies were getting together and Modi would not be an issue in the next parliamentary elections. He parried a question over the merit of Rahul Gandhi as a prime ministerial candidate after the party’s success in Karnataka in forming the government.
The Congress leadership must be appreciated for the way it handled the situation, he said.
Shatrughan Sinha said he would not stop pointing out the shortcomings in his party just to save his membership. He was ready to sacrifice his party membership rather than compromising with the truth, he said.
