Gurugram, November 15: Under fire for not being able to arrest the labourer accused of raping and brutally murdering a three-year-old in Sector 46 even after two days, the Gurugram police have deployed over 1,000 cops in his search.

Around 70 teams have been combing city since Tuesday night.

“The family of the accused has disowned him. The accused, a daily-wage earner, would generally sleep at construction sites or the bus stand. Raids were also conducted at all such places and at his native place in Mathura, but to no avail,” said a senior investigator.

The SIT headed by ACP Shamsher Singh has questioned a number of contractors and labourers in search of 20-year-old accused Sunil.

Meanwhile, a CCTV footage showed the accused taking the girl with him, thus almost ruling out the possibility of involvement of any other person in the crime.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family, supported by the Domestic Workers’ Union (Gharelu Kamgar Union, GKU), has demanded action against the cops who allegedly did not register an FIR after the girl went missing on November 11 evening.

“The parents were misdirected by the local police that their complaint did not fall in the jurisdiction of said police station; thereby wasting crucial time in locating the child and nabbing the culprit. The distressed parents had to make a PCR call the next day to get necessary directions issued to the police station concerned. We want action against the erring officials,” said the union in its official statement.
