Gurdaspur, April 19: A 15-year-old schoolgirl was murdered after suspected rape at Manepur village of Gurdaspur district. Manepur falls in the jurisdiction of the Kalanaur police station.
Surinder Pal Singh Parmar, IG (Border), said he dispatched a team of senior officers, including Gurdaspur SSP Harcharan Singh Bhullar, to the spot on Wednesday.
The minor was allegedly strangled and left in a run-down panchayat ghar adjoining the village gurdwara, 100 m from her house.
The SSP said prima facie it appeared that some men tried to rape the girl. Later, they murdered her. “Investigations are still on. We have called forensic experts and a dog squad has also been pressed into service,” the SSP added.
The minor’s body was sent for a postmortem examination at the Gurdaspur Civil Hospital.
The hospital authorities have constituted a board of doctors to ascertain if the girl was raped.
“I cannot say anything till the postmortem report is received,” said the SSP.
