16 ‘bogus’ members excluded from voter list ahead of CKD poll

Amritsar, November 29: Days before the Chief Khalsa Diwan (CKD) elections, 16 “bogus” members have been excluded from the voter list.

The CKD’s emergency meeting called by its executive to resolve this issue on Wednesday did not reach any conclusion. Now, only 417 members would be authorised to cast votes.

A group led by Sarbjit Singh, contesting for the president’s post, demanded a thorough inquiry into the bogus voting scam unearthed in the territory of Amarjit Singh Vikrant, the president of local unit of CKD in Ludhiana. They also demanded immediate expulsion of other members who were involved in this conspiracy prior to the elections scheduled for December 2.

CKD honorary secretary Narinder Singh Khurana said a transparent inquiry would be conducted by a retired sessions judge but the elections would be held as per the schedule. He said the poll result of Vikrant, who is contesting for the post of vice-president from the Nirmal Singh group, could be withheld till the outcome of the inquiry.

“The objections of the Sarbjit group were taken into consideration but their demand of holding an inquiry prior to elections was dismissed. If the inquiry result comes against Amarjit, his poll result could be held null and void,” he said.

Procuring the details of bogus members as per updated list of March 2018, Jaswinder Singh Advocate, contesting for secretary’s post, said four members from Ludhiana had died years ago but fictitious members with identical names were inducted illegally against the identification numbers originally allotted to the members who had expired.
