185 fall ill in Dharamsala due to gastroenteritis

Date:

Dharamsala, May 10: At least 185 people have fallen ill due to gastroenteritis in Dharamsala. Ram Nagar and Sham Nagar areas of the city are the worst affected.

Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kangra, Dr RS Rana said 32 persons have been admitted to the Zonal Hospital, Dharamsala, in the last few days. As many as 54 students in Dhauladhar school in Ram Nagar have fallen ill due to gastroenteritis.

The Department of Health had formed teams for a door-to-door survey in the areas. The situation was under control, the CMO said.

“We have collected water samples from the areas and sent these to laboratory for examination. From preliminary reports, it seems that the water supply in the area from rivulets got contaminated,” the CMO said.

The pipes supplying water to Dharamsala from the Gajj rivulet had been damaged. The health authorities are suspecting that water got contaminated that led to the outbreak of the disease.

Executive Engineer, IPH Department, Vikas Bakshi said the matter was brought to his notice. He also said the department had sent teams to check the natural sources of water.
