20 hospitals violate waste mgmt norms, to face action

Patiala, April 24: Twenty hospitals in the state have been found violating the provisions of the Bio-medical Waste Management Rules, 2016. As many as 38 Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) teams conducted surprise inspections at around 127 hospitals in the state to check compliance of the provisions of the Rules. While 107 hospitals were found adhering to the norms, the remaining 20 committed violations.

“Action against these hospitals will be taken under the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986,” said PPCB Chairman Kahan Singh Pannu.

According to PPCB officials, the 20 hospitals found violating the bio-medical waste norms include Government Civil Hospital, Pathankot, Pran Nath Hospital, Muktsar, Global Health Care Bathinda, Boor Singh Memorial Hospital, Faridkot, Sant Baba Harnam Singh Memorial Charitable Hospital, Dasuya, Civil Hospital, Kapurthala, Care Max Super Specialty Hospital, Jalandhar, Kidney Hospital and Lifeline Medical Institution, Jalandhar, Bhangoo Hospital, Payal, Shree Rama Charitable Hospital, Ludhiana, and Saraswati Professional and Higher Education Society, Kharar.
