Patiala, July 10: The Vigilance Bureau on Monday asked former Moga SSP to undergo a polygraph test over the charges of conniving with former Inspector Inderjit Singh, who allegedly managed a lab report to shield a drug smuggler.

Raj Jit joined the probe at the economics offences wing of the Vigilance Bureau, which is investigating the case pertaining to the arrest of dismissed Inspector Inderjit Singh, who was posted in Tarn Taran during Raj Jit’s tenure as SSP there.

A senior officer said: “The SSP’s name does not figure in the FIR against Inderjit Singh for providing protection to drug smuggler. However, we have information that Raj Jit was aware of the illegal protection to the smuggler. We offered him a chance to undergo a lie detecting polygraph test, but he sought time to decide on the issue.”

Earlier, the Vigilance Bureau had issued a lookout notice against the SSP, fearing that he would leave the country.

As per the FIR, Jagdeep Singh, a lab technician at government laboratory in Kharar and an accused in a drugs case, allegedly paid Rs 17 lakh as bribe to Inderjit Singh through Raminder Pal and Pawan. The bribe was paid to ensure that Jagdeep was made a witness even as he was the main accused in the FIR registered in Tarn Taran.

“Inderjit Singh got the nod from the then Tarn Taran SSP Raj Jit Singh to make the accused a witness,” said SP (Vigilance) Pritpal Singh, who is handling the probe.

“We are trying to corroborate the claims made the accused in the case and the claims of Inderjit Singh, who is already in jail in a separate case,” he said.

Pritpal Singh said: “We have questioned the former SSP about his direct involvement in the case. We will summon him again next week.”

Raj Jit had also been in the centre of a feud between three DGPs. One of them, DGP Sidharth Chatopadhyay, had accused DGP Suresh Arora and DGP Dinkar Gupta of protecting him. Additional DGP Harpreet Sidhu-led STF had accused Raj Jit of being involved in drug smuggling.
