40-yr-old man arrested for daughter’s rape

Mohali, June 1: A 40-year-old man has been arrested for raping his daughter at least a dozen times in the past four years.

Hailing from Uttar Pradesh, the accused lives at Jagatpura village here with his wife and three children. The victim, a 17-year-old, is his eldest daughter. The case came to light when the victim shared her ordeal with her friend.

The accused, a daily wager, was produced in a court on Thursday, which sent him to judicial custody.

Sohana SHO Manjit Singh said the victim and the accused have been medically examined, which confirmed the crime. The victim’s statement was recorded in the court under Section 164 of the CrPC on Thursday.

As per the information, she was constantly threatened and beaten up by her father and thus, she did not tell anyone about her being violated for all these years. She was 13 when her father first raped her. No one was home then.

On Wednesday, the victim met a friend of hers and told her about the same in confidence that she would not talk about it with anyone. However, the friend went ahead and informed her father, who then called the police, the Station House Officer (SHO) said.

The police approached the victim, who gave a formal complaint, following which a case under Section 376 of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 4 and 6 of the POCSO Act was registered against the accused.
