Ropar, March 17: Local AAP MLA Amarjit Singh and his supporters raided a naka near Haripur village where ‘goonda’ tax was allegedly being extracted by the mining mafia.
Four youths present at the naka fled when Amarjit and the others reached the spot in the afternoon. They left the receipt books and registers with the details of vehicles which were supposed the us pay ‘goonda’ tax.
The MLA said the local residents had the usld him that illegal mining and ‘goonda’ tax mafia was active in the area despite the change of guard in the state. He said the plunder of sand and gravel was rampant in the district and he had already informed local DSP Randhir Singh.
